Version 7, Licenses, Upgrades, & Legacy Editions (Artist, Prime)

We offer one perpetual software license to our digital audio workstation (DAW) — Studio One Pro 7. Purchasing a perpetual license gives you ownership of the current version of the DAW (today, that's version 7.0), plus one year of new feature releases, all yours to keep. Explore the FAQ for perpetual licenses, what's included in a perpetual license, and perpetual license purchase options below.
What is a perpetual software license to Studio One Pro 7?
Perpetual: never ending or changing. Owning a perpetual software license to Studio One Pro 7 means you will never lose access to the version of the software you purchase. This is in contrast to our access-only monthly subscription, wherein you lose all access to the software once your subscription ends.
If I purchase a license to the latest version will I receive any new features releases?
In addition to the version you purchase, every perpetual license purchase includes one (1) year of new feature releases. This means the perpetual license you own will be for the version of Studio One Pro 7 released one year from the date of your initial software license purchase.
How can I purchase a perpetual license to Studio One Pro?
You can purchase a perpetual license to the latest version of Studio One Pro here on presonus.com and begin using the software today, or you can buy a software registration key from your favorite PreSonus retailer. Product keys purchased at retail will need to be registered through your MyPreSonus account. We now also provide the exact same perpetual license including all new features released each year (yours to keep) through an annually recurring Studio One Pro+ subscription. In addition to a perpetual license, the Annual+ plan includes 12 months of subscription access to extra cloud-based tools, community and collaboration features, plug-ins, and an extensive library of loops and samples.
What is a license upgrade?
We offer discounted perpetual licenses to the latest version of Studio One Pro for users “upgrading” from a previously purchased version (Version 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.). The Studio One Pro Upgrade is now available to all perpetual license owners of any previous version of Studio One Professional Edition or our legacy Artist Edition, for $149.99 USD.
Am I eligible for a free license upgrade to version 7?
Anyone who purchased a Studio One 6 Professional Edition license on or after August 1st, 2024 is eligible to redeem a Studio One Pro 7 perpetual license and a year of new feature releases for their license. NOTE: Users must redeem Studio One Pro 7 in their MyPreSonus account by December 31, 2024.
Am I eligible for instant access to version 7?
Anyone with an active Studio One Pro+ Annual or Monthly subscription can access version 7.0, today. Subscribers whose Annual+ subscription began on or after Jan 1, 2024 have also received a perpetual license to Studio One Pro version 7. Annual+ subscribers will also continue to receive all new features released throughout the year of their annual subscription.
What’s included in a perpetual license purchase?
Beginning with Studio One Pro 7, perpetual license purchases now, and into the future, will include all Studio One Pro extensions and virtual instruments. This means you’ll own extensions like Audio Batch Converter, Presence XT Editor, and any new extensions released within the included one (1) year of new feature releases. You’ll also own all Studio One Pro virtual instruments and instrument soundsets including the new Deep Flight One and Deep Flight One Soundset, Lead Architect, PreSonus Symphonic Orchestra, and all Presence XT Soundsets, plus any new virtual instruments released within the included one (1) year of new feature releases.
What is happening to Studio One Artist Edition and the free Studio One Prime Edition?
Studio One Artist and Studio One Prime Editions are being discontinued and will no longer be available starting October 9, 2024. Anyone with existing registrations of Studio One Artist or Studio One Prime will continue to have access to these products in their MyPreSonus accounts, and will continue to be able to download, install, and activate the software in the future.
The PreSonus hardware I purchased says it includes Studio One Artist Edition. What Studio One software will I receive when I register my hardware product?
In place of the discontinued Studio One Artist Edition, we now offer stackable months of Studio One Pro+ access, which includes access to Studio One Pro, with most PreSonus hardware or 12 months of access AND a Studio One Pro perpetual license with several higher-end products. Anyone registering PreSonus hardware that included Studio One Artist in the past will continue to have the option to redeem Studio One 6 Artist instead when they register their hardware in MyPreSonus.
New Version Release Cycle & Faster Feature Releases
Since the first version of Studio One in 2009, we’ve released new major versions about every 2 years. In the future, we're striving to get major new features into your hands much faster, as soon as they are ready. So, we’re targeting multiple major feature releases every year, with the first of these releases coming in early 2025.
What is Studio One Pro’s new, faster version release cycle (ex. v5, v6, v7, v#)?
With Studio One Pro 7 and beyond, we are targeting multiple, new feature releases each year (ex. x.x, y.y, z.z, etc.), with additional maintenance releases in between new feature releases (ex. x.x.X) as needed.
What does “one (1) year of new features releases” mean for my Studio One Pro 7 license?
“One (1) year of new feature releases included,” means you will own all new features released within that year. After the end of your year of included new features, your perpetual license will be for the most recent new feature release version (ex. x.x). You will continue to receive any maintenance and bug fix releases for your version until the next new feature release (ex. x.x.X)—all “X” bug fixes and maintenance releases are included with your perpetual license.
What support will I continue to receive for my license after my year of new feature releases ends?
Access to support through your MyPreSonus account remains unchanged. You will continue to be able to create support tickets and receive support for any supported software version.
What maintenance releases will I receive for my license after my year of new feature releases ends?
If you’re on version x.x.X of a perpetual license, all “X” bug fix and maintenance releases are included. Users with perpetual licenses past their one year of included feature releases will receive all maintenance releases (x.x.X) until the next feature version (y.y) is released. Further maintenance releases based on the next release version will only be available by purchasing a Perpetual License Upgrade or subscribing to Studio One Pro+. This is the equivalent of a Studio One 6 user who doesn’t have a Studio One Pro 7 license. They would get 6.6.3 and 6.6.4, but not 7.0.0, 7.0.1 or 7.0.2.
Studio One Pro+ Subscriptions

Our access-based and cloud-extras subscription offering is called Studio One Pro+, and it's the best way into all the extras for Studio One Pro. Our Annual+ plan is still the best value at $179.99 USD per year, giving new users a 10% savings on the price of a Studio One Pro perpetual license while providing the same full year of new feature releases for your license—plus annual access to all the cloud-based tools, content, loops, and samples available with Studio One Pro+.
What is the difference between Studio One Pro and Studio One Pro+?
Studio One Pro is the name of our award-winning digital audio workstation (the DAW). Studio One Pro+ is the name of our subscription offering providing access to the DAW “plus” access to cloud-based tools, content, plug-ins, and an extensive library of loops and samples.
What is the difference between an Annual+ plan and Monthly+ “access-only” plan?
Studio One Pro+ is available through an access-only monthly subscription (Monthly+) or through an Annual plan (Annual+) that also includes a Studio One Pro perpetual license. Monthly+ plans have the convenience of unlimited access to the latest version of Studio One Pro with no long-term commitment, but they do not provide a license if you choose to end your subscription. Annual+ plans have the added benefit of providing the peace of mind of a license if you choose to ever end your subscription access to the extras in Studio One Pro+.
I have an active Studio One+ Annual “Hybrid” plan, what is changing for me?
We’re clearing up the confusion. The perpetual software license included with our Annual subscription plans is the same as our standalone perpetual licenses. On the day you subscribe to a Studio One Pro+ Annual plan, you receive access to the latest release of Studio One Pro and one year of additional feature releases for your license — all yours to keep when your Studio One Pro+ Annual plan ends.
What happens if I choose to end my Annual+ subscription?
An active Studio One Pro+ plan is required for access to the cloud-based tools, content, and extras exclusive to Studio One Pro+. If you choose to cancel your Annual+ plan, your access to tools like collaboration workspaces, content like Product Specialist livestreams and mix critiques, and extras like plug-ins, loops, and samples will expire at the end of the period for which you’ve already paid.
My annual plan is scheduled to end before December 31st, 2024. Will I receive a Studio One Pro 7 perpetual license?
No. When we introduced perpetual licenses to Annual plans in April 2024, we announced that these licenses would be awarded to any Annual subscription that started or renewed on or after January 1, 2024. If your Studio One Pro+ Annual plan ends before December 31st, 2024, then by definition it did not renew on or after January 1, 2024. You will need to renew your Annual subscription in order to receive a perpetual license. Once renewed, your license will receive all feature releases (yours to keep) each year, plus your normal subscription access to all the extra cloud-based tools, community and collaboration features, plug-ins, and the extensive library of loops and samples in Studio One Pro+.
I have an active Monthly+ subscription, what is changing for me?
Nothing changes for monthly, access-only subscribers with the release of Studio One Pro 7. You will continue to enjoy unlimited access to the latest version releases of Studio One Pro as soon as they’re released, as always.
Can I switch from a Monthly subscription to an Annual plan?
Yes, at any time during your Studio One Pro+ Monthly subscription you can visit your Plan page in MyPreSonus and click ‘Switch to Studio One Pro+ Annual’. The price of an Annual+ plan will be prorated to reflect the remaining time on your Monthly subscription. Your subscription will renew annually until canceled.
Is there a cancellation fee or additional cost to end my subscription?
There is no cancellation fee or other cost, and you can cancel a Studio One Pro+ subscription at any time.
What is “stacking” Studio One Pro+ plans?
Stacking refers to the possibility of combining multiple access periods of bundled or prepaid Studio One Pro+ access. For example, you may purchase a PreSonus audio interface that includes 6 months of access to Studio One Pro+. Before the 6-month period ends, you could purchase an eligible pair of PreSonus studio monitors or a production controller which would grant another 6 months of access. In this scenario, your total bundled time would equal 12 months of access to Studio One Pro+. As an added benefit to stacking, users who stack 12 months or more will be converted to an Annual+ plan and be awarded a perpetual license, just as you would if you had subscribed to Annual+ plan originally. Select retailers also offer a prepaid 6-month access plan to Studio One Pro+, which can also be stacked and works exactly as outlined above wherein two of these 6-month plans will ‘stack’ to 12 months of access and unlock a perpetual license.
Studio One Pro+ included with PreSonus Hardware

Many PreSonus hardware products now include completely free, stackable months of access to Studio One Pro+. This means that anyone that purchases eligible PreSonus hardware products will have unlimited access to the latest version of Studio One Pro and a host of extras in Studio One Pro+.
Which PreSonus hardware products come with Studio One Pro+?
Most PreSonus audio interfaces, MIDI pad and daw controllers, and bi-amped studio monitor pairs come with 6 months of completely free access to Studio One Pro+, which includes access to Studio One Pro. In addition, our Eris Pro studio monitor pairs, StudioLive Series III digital console and rack mixers, and Quantum HD Series interfaces all include a Studio One Pro perpetual license AND 12 months of free access to Studio One Pro+.
How do I get access to my free period of Studio One Pro+ that comes with my hardware purchase?
You must register your hardware product in MyPreSonus in order to redeem any included software.
What happens when I “stack” two hardware purchases that each come with 6 months of Studio One Pro+?
Stacking refers to the possibility of combining multiple access periods of bundled or prepaid Studio One Pro+ access. If you purchase a PreSonus audio interface that includes 6 months of access to Studio One Pro+, you could also purchase an eligible pair of PreSonus studio monitors or a production controller to get another 6 months of access. If register your second 6 months of access at any time before your first 6-month period ends, your combined bundled time will be totaled to 12 months of access to Studio One Pro+.
Lagniappe FAQ
At our headquarters in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we’re always looking to add a little something extra (like the recipes hidden in the back of our user manuals). We know the minds of producers and engineers are very detailed, and understandably so from working in a very detailed profession and hobby. So we do our best to provide as much information as possible on our products, our purchase offerings, and our plans for the future of PreSonus and Studio One. With that, here’s a little extra FAQ to share what we can and have some fun with all the changes we've made lately to get Studio One Pro set up for success.

Will the PreSonus “big music” corporate overlords ever bring back a free version of Studio One to replace the Studio One Prime Edition?
We know Studio One Prime was a great entry point for people new to the world of DAWs and music recording. “The powers that be” are absolutely considering the possibility of another free recording application at some point in the future. For those that have been with us, think: a 1-page (maybe 2) user manual type of experience :). Stay tuned!
Why call it Studio One Pro and not just Studio One? Marketing nonsense?
We promise it’ll all make sense one day. Thanks for reading this far down! Now, go make some music.
